MediaTek has launched its latest premium 5G chipset, the Dimensity 8450, at the India Dimensity Summit. The event saw participation from popular smartphone brands like OPPO, Vivo, Motorola, Redmi, realme, Infinix, Samsung, and Lava. The company also marked one year of MediaTek Connect with a gaming tournament and showcased its full 5G chipset lineup, from budget to flagship models.
The Dimensity 8450 is built using a 4nm process and features an “All Big Core” design. It uses eight ARM Cortex-A725 cores and a Mali-G720 MC7 GPU. MediaTek claims up to 30% better performance and efficiency than the previous generation. It includes the NPU 880 and Agentic AI Engine, which enables support for large language models (LLMs), global generative AI tools, and advanced AI tasks. This means smartphones powered by the Dimensity 8450 can handle smarter tasks like real-time voice translation, improved photo editing, and on-device chatbots with greater speed and accuracy.
The SoC supports LPDDR5X RAM (up to 8533 Mbps) and UFS 4.0 storage. Gamers will enjoy the HyperEngine MAGT 3.0 tech, which boosts touch response and improves how phones switch between 5G and Wi-Fi during gameplay.
The chipset also supports high-resolution displays up to WQHD+ with refresh rates up to 144Hz, along with dual-screen support.
For photography, the Imagiq 1080 ISP supports up to 320MP sensors, fast autofocus, zero-lag HDR, and in-sensor zoom. This makes smartphone cameras more powerful and responsive. The chip also includes Dual EIS Engine who enables stabilized 4K60 HDR video capture. It also has a new Live Broadcast Booster to make livestreams look sharper by improving face clarity.
The Dimensity 8450 supports 5G Advanced (5G-A) and is capable of reaching speeds of up to 5.17 Gbps, thanks to 3CC Carrier Aggregation. It uses sub-6GHz bands. The chip supports Wi-Fi 6E with a dual-antenna (2T2R) setup for better range and stability. It also comes with Bluetooth 5.4.
For even better battery efficiency, MediaTek has included UltraSave 3.0+, a power-saving technology that manages connectivity in the background without compromising performance.
The OPPO Reno14 Pro will be the first phone in India to launch with the Dimensity 8450. Another K-series phone is also expected soon.
