In a heartbreaking turn of events, a teenage couple from Pakistan lost their lives after crossing illegally into India’s Thar Desert, succumbing to extreme heat and dehydration. The couple, identified as Ravi Kumar and Shanti Bai, had reportedly married just a few months ago and entered Indian territory in hopes of starting a new life together.

Denied legal visas, the couple undertook the perilous journey on foot, carrying only five litres of water. They reportedly walked more than 30 kilometres in the scorching desert heat, where temperatures soared to 50°C. Tragically, they could not survive the brutal conditions. Their decomposed bodies were discovered by locals near the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district.

Local authorities have confirmed that the couple’s last rites were performed in India, highlighting the human tragedy and risks involved in such desperate attempts at migration.

This incident sheds light on the often-overlooked human cost of border restrictions and the perilous choices made by those seeking love, freedom, and a better life—no matter the danger.

May Ravi Kumar and Shanti Bai rest in peace.
