BSNL has finally entered the 5G era with the soft launch of Quantum 5G FWA. The launch took place at the Ameerpet Exchange in Hyderabad, led by BSNL’s CMD Shri A. Robert J. Ravi. This new service promises ultra-fast internet without the need for fiber cables.
BSNL’s Quantum 5G FWA is not your usual broadband service. It uses 5G signals to deliver internet to homes and offices, just like how your phone connects to 5G. But what makes it special is its SIM-less technology. That means no physical SIM card is required. BSNL uses a Direct-to-Device platform that authenticates users automatically. This is the first SIM-less 5G service in India.
Everything in this setup, from the core network to the 5G radios and even the user devices (CPE), is developed in India. This fully indigenous technology is part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
In speed tests done at the Ameerpet site, BSNL achieved download speeds of 980 Mbps and upload speeds of 140 Mbps, with less than 10ms latency. That is fast enough for 4K video streaming, online gaming, and video calls without any lag.
The 5G router is plug-and-play, and BSNL says it can cover 85% of homes in Hyderabad using its existing towers. Just place the device at home and get high-speed internet instantly. There is no need to dig roads or lay cables.
BSNL plans to expand this service to more cities soon. Pilot projects will begin in Bengaluru, Pondicherry, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Gwalior, and Chandigarh.
The entry-level plan starts at Rs. 999 for 100 Mbps, and there’s also a 300 Mbps plan for Rs. 1,499. These plans are expected to offer stable and fast internet to homes, offices, and even rural areas.
