Lancashire Triumphs Over Essex in Thrilling Women’s T20 Blast Match
In a gripping contest, Essex, captained by Eva Gray, faced off against Lancashire, led by Eleanor Threlkeld, in the 35th match of the inaugural Women’s T20 Blast. This match was pivotal for both teams as they navigated the competitive landscape of the points table.
Due to persistent rain, the match was shortened, transforming it into an exciting 8-over-per-side showdown.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Eleanor Threlkeld’s decision paid off as Essex openers Alice Macleod and wicket-keeper Lauren Winfield-Hill cautiously built a modest 14-run partnership. However, Phoebe Graham struck early, dismissing Macleod in the 4th over, setting the tone for Lancashire’s bowling attack.
Essex managed to score 47 runs for 7 wickets in their allotted 8 overs, with Lauren Winfield-Hill being the standout performer, scoring 13 runs off 18 balls. The bowling heroes for Lancashire included Kate Cross (2 wickets for 9 runs), Alana King (2 wickets for 17 runs), and Tara Norris (1 wicket for 16 runs), who all put in stellar performances.
Chasing a revised target of 52 runs, Lancashire showcased their batting prowess, achieving the win with 8 wickets in hand and two overs to spare. Emma Lamb (21 runs off 17 balls) and Eve Jones (17 runs off 13 balls) were instrumental in the chase, forming the highest partnership of 29 runs, which set the foundation for their victory.
Eva Gray was the lone wicket-taker for Essex, finishing with figures of 1 for 7. Despite admirable efforts from Esmae MacGregor and Abtaha Maqsood, who bowled economically, it wasn’t enough to halt Lancashire’s momentum.
With this impressive victory, Lancashire climbs to the 5th position in the points table, solidifying their status as a formidable contender in the tournament.
