The Indian government has announced a new FASTag-based annual pass that will make highway travel simpler and more affordable for private vehicle owners. Starting August 15, 2025, private car, jeep, and van users can get this pass by paying a one-time fee of ₹3,000. The pass will be valid for one year or up to 200 toll transactions, whichever limit is reached first.
This initiative aims to reduce congestion at toll plazas, offer convenience to frequent travelers, and ensure faster vehicle movement across National Highways.
Who Can Apply?
The ₹3,000 FASTag annual pass is only for non-commercial private vehicles. This includes: Cars, Jeeps, and Vans. Commercial vehicles like trucks, buses, and taxis are not eligible for this plan. The pass is designed for individual vehicle owners who frequently use highways for work, travel, or personal reasons.
How It Works
Once activated, the annual pass links to your vehicle’s FASTag account. Instead of paying tolls every time you drive through a plaza, the system will deduct trips from your pass balance. You get 200 trips or one year of travel, whichever comes first.
If your trip is on a closed toll system (where both entry and exit are recorded), a complete round trip will be counted as one. This setup is particularly useful for people who travel back and forth on the same routes.
The pass helps reduce traffic and disputes at toll booths, especially on stretches where toll plazas fall within 60 km of each other.
Key Benefits
- Cost-effective travel: ₹3,000 for up to 200 trips means each journey costs just ₹15 — a great value for frequent travelers.
- One-time payment: No need to top up your FASTag for every trip. One recharge covers the entire year or trip limit.
- Time-saving: Faster access at toll gates as you do not need to worry about FasTag balance every time you travel.
- Digital-first: Apply, activate, and renew using your phone — no physical paperwork required.
- Supports seamless highway connectivity: Encourages better compliance and fewer toll-related disputes.
How to Apply
The government will soon make the application process live. Once available, users can activate or renew the annual pass through:
- The Rajmarg Yatra App
- The official websites of NHAI and MoRTH
Minister Nitin Gadkari has confirmed that a dedicated link for activation and renewal will be made available soon.
Once activated, the pass is linked to your existing FASTag account. You do not need a new FASTag to use the pass.
Should You Get It?
If you travel frequently on National Highways, whether for work, family visits, or personal trips, this pass is a great option. It saves you time, avoids the hassle of topping up balances, and cuts down your overall toll expenses.
It is especially useful if your daily route includes tolls that fall within the 60 km dispute-prone zone. Instead of paying every time, the system will simply count your trips. This keeps things smooth and transparent.
For those who only use highways occasionally, the pass may not offer enough value. But for daily or weekly users, it is a smart and economical choice.
Final Thoughts
The FASTag Annual Pass is a welcome step toward digitizing and simplifying road travel in India. It helps regular commuters save time and money, reduces delays at toll booths, and encourages faster adoption of FASTag systems nationwide.
With easy online activation, clear eligibility, and a flat price, the new pass has everything a frequent highway traveler could ask for. It is not just about tolls, it is about making your journey smoother, faster, and more efficient.
