Honor has launched its latest foldable phone, the Magic V5, in China. The company claims it is the thinnest foldable phone in the world right now, at least in its white color variant. A global launch is expected soon.
The Ivory White model is just 8.8mm thick when folded and 4.1mm when open, making it slightly thinner than Oppo’s Find N5. Other color variants are 9mm thick. While the Magic V5 is thin, the camera bump sticks out. The phone weighs 217g, which also makes it one of the lightest foldables ever made.
This fight for the slimmest foldable is not new. Honor held the record before with the Magic V3, until Oppo launched the Find N5. Now, Honor takes the lead again. But this might change soon, as Samsung is expected to launch a thinner Galaxy Z Fold 7 next week.
The Magic V5 features a new design with a diamond-cut finish and an eight-curve frame. It uses a Luban Suspension Hinge made of durable steel that is tested for 500,000 folds. The phone also includes carbon fiber backplates and dual aerospace-grade fiber layers for added strength.
The company has also used King Kong Giant Rhino Glass, which claims to offer 3x better wear resistance, 10x better drop protection, and 15x better scratch resistance. There’s also an AI system that detects debris over 0.8mm to help avoid screen damage. The phone is rated IP58 and IP59 for dust and water resistance.
The Magic V5 comes with two OLED screens. There’s a 7.95-inch foldable inner display (2352×2172) and a 6.43-inch outer display (2376×1060). Both offer 120Hz refresh rate, HDR, Dolby Vision, and up to 5000 nits peak brightness.
It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset to offer top-notch performance. The phone comes with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
The Magic V5 runs on MagicOS 9.0.1 (based on Android 15). It comes with Honor’s YOYO AI assistant, which supports screen recognition, voice commands, multitasking, and cross-platform sharing with iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and HarmonyOS.
Other smart features include Voiceprint noise reduction, Smart privacy calls, Split-screen multitasking, and VIP services for buyers.
The rear camera setup includes a 50MP wide-angle (f/1.6) camera, a 50MP ultra-wide (f/2.0) camera, and a 64MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. There are also 20MP front cameras on both inner and outer displays. Other features include AI super zoom, OIS, laser autofocus, and stereo speakers.
Connectivity options are Dual 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC; Dual-band GPS, Beidou, GLONASS, Galileo, and Satellite Communication. The phone packs a 6100mAh battery in 1TB model and a 5820mAh battery in other models. It supports 66W wired fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and wireless reverse charging.
