Strong Top Order Performance Sets Up Durham’s Competitive Total

Durham’s openers, Emma Marlow and Suzie Bates, ignited their innings with an impressive 50-run opening partnership after Somerset’s captain Sophie Luff chose to bowl first at Chester-le-Street. Chloe Skelton broke the momentum by dismissing Emma Marlow (18 off 11 balls) in the final over of the powerplay, granting Somerset their first breakthrough.

Captain Hollie Armitage then joined Suzie Bates, and the pair forged a vital 36-run partnership for the second wicket. However, Alex Griffiths struck again, claiming the wicket of Suzie Bates (48 off 37 balls) in the 11th over, leaving her just two runs shy of a half-century.

Maddy Villiers then partnered with Armitage, contributing to a crucial 49-run partnership for the third wicket, pushing Durham closer to a total of 140 runs. Unfortunately, Armitage’s innings came to an end with a run-out (41 off 37 balls) in the 18th over, marking Somerset’s third breakthrough. Ultimately, Durham finished with a solid total of 154/4 after 20 overs, with Maddy Villiers adding a valuable 39* off 27 balls to close the innings.

For Somerset, Chloe Skelton (4-0-26-1) and Alex Griffiths (3-0-28-1) were the standout bowlers, while Amanda-Jade Wellington (4-0-23-0) and Erin Vukusic (4-0-29-0) also performed well.

Durham’s Bowlers Hold Their Nerve to Secure Victory

In response to a target of 155, Somerset managed to score 148/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a promising start with a 37-run opening stand between Niamh Holland and Rebecca Odgers, and a significant 53-run partnership for the fourth wicket between wicket-keeper Jess Hazell (38 off 38 balls) and Rebecca Odgers (54 off 37 balls), the Durham bowlers maintained their composure and clinched a thrilling 6-run victory.

Maddy Villiers (4-0-24-2), Sophia Turner (4-0-24-2), and Phoebe Turner (4-0-15-1) were instrumental with the ball for Durham, while Katie Levick (4-0-26-1) also contributed to the win.

Heather Graham and Ella Claridge Propel The Blaze to 188/6

The Blaze opener, Marie Kelly, partnered with Georgia Elwiss to launch a rapid start, surpassing 10 runs per over after their captain, Georgia Adams, opted to bat first at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield. Freya Davies soon provided Hampshire with their much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Marie Kelly (16 off 7 balls) in the second over.

However, The Blaze faced a mini-collapse, slipping to 49/4 during the powerplay, losing three wickets for just 29 runs. Ella Claridge came in and, alongside Heather Graham, constructed a vital 76-run partnership for the fifth wicket, pushing their total past 120 runs. Ellyse Perry claimed the crucial wicket of Heather Graham (73 off 47 balls) in the 15th over, just after she completed her brisk half-century.

The Blaze ultimately posted an impressive 188/6 in their 20 overs, with Ella Claridge (51* off 36 balls) remaining unbeaten, providing a spectacular finish.
