On July 11, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut posted a video of Maharashtra Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat allegedly shown sitting with a bag containing large bundles of notes, sparking a major political controversy in the state.

Raut claimed he “feels sorry” for CM Fadnavis and accused the ruling government of corruption. In the video, the bag is prominently visible beside Shirsat as he sits smoking in a private setting—just a day after an Income Tax notice sought details of a sharp rise in his assets.

Shirsat, however, defended himself, stating the bag contained only clothes, not cash, and dismissed the footage as a planned conspiracy to malign him. He also emphasized he’s cooperating with the IT department’s inquiry.

The incident has prompted widespread political backlash. Critics are now demanding transparency from both Shirsat and CM Fadnavis, calling for a thorough investigation.
